If we look at Animal Farm, for instance, its original Penguin 'triband' design in 1951 was created in 1935 by Edward Young, the publisher's first production manager, and refined in 1948 by the typographer Jan Tschichold. As is typical with this genre of books (such as Fahrenheit 451 and The Giver) a hero emerges who challenges the status quo of a totalitarian government in a dystopian future. Of course, if anyone who loves book cover illustration and design will know, George Orwell titles have been a constant source of inspiration since the author began his association with Penguin Books in 1940. Written in 1948, George Orwells classic book 1984 has great relevance for the modern reader.
